How do I earn points/complete someone's request?

To become an Author and fulfill someone's request for materials, follow these steps:

  • You must be a ranking member to fulfill requests. (If you are not a Sponsor, Contributor, Creator, or Developer click to learn how to become one.)

  • Make sure you are logged in to the Utumno website.

  • From the $2, click on the Cue Sheet button.

  • Once in the , you need to find a Cue to work on. If you have a specific Cue already in mind and know how to find it, skip to step #5. Otherwise, the best way to find a Cue in your area of expertise is to use the Search feature:

  • Expand the "Media Type" vine section of the $2.

  • Find the area of your expertise and expand it. ("Graphics" if you're an artist, "Code" if you're a programmer, et cetera.)

  • Now that you've selected your area of focus, click on the "Search" logo near the top of the page.

  • When the search parameters appear, select the "Cue Status" checkbox then select "Requested". This will narrow the search to only display Cues where other Authors have not started on yet.
  • Click the bottom-most checkbox as well to narrow the search to just the area of your expertise (from in Step #4.b)

  • Click on the "Search" button at the bottom of the page.

  • Once a Cue is displayed, Click on the "Authors" link.

  • Click the "Add" button to add yourself as an Author on the Cue. (Click for more information about being an Author.)

  • Now is the time to decide if you are going it alone or as part of a team. Click for more information about forming or joining a team.
  • If you feel the points offered are enough for you to do the work requested, click the status potion vial. (Click for more information about the Requested status.)

  • When the status selection screen comes up, click on the radio button next to the "Started" potion vial. (Click for more information about the Started status.)

  • You have indicated work has begun. Once you finish creating the requested materails, create a thumbnail version of it where appropriate (64x64 pixel jpeg for visual elements, a shortened lower sample rate mp3 for sound, etc.)
  • Next, upload the materials to the .

  • From the $2, click on the Downloads button.

  • Expand the "Development Material" vine.

  • Find and expand the subcategory that best describes the material you just created.

  • Repeat step #11.c with each new subcategory until no further subcategories appear.

  • Click on the "Upload" symbol displayed next to the title of the deepest subcategory you have selected.

  • Click the "browse" or "choose file" button near the top of the upload page and select the file of the material you created.

  • Just below that, click the "browse" or "choose file" button and upload the preview you crated in Step #10.

  • Type a breif description for the material in the textbox labeled "Description".

  • Type a version number like "1.0" so people can distinguish between potential multiple versions of the same material.

  • Click the "Upload" button near the bottom of the Upload page.

  • Return to the Downloads section and find the item you just uploaded. Make sure the item was uploaded properly.

  • Right-click on the filename link and copy the download address URL to the clipboard.

  • If your new Cue isn't already being displayed, Return to the CueSheet (Step #3), then expand the "My Cues" vine to see all the Cues you are involved with.

  • Add a link to the Cue by clicking on the link labeled "Links" in the lower-left area of the Cue.

  • Click on the checkbox labeled "Add a new link to this Cue".

  • Type a description of the link in the textbox labeled "Label".

  • Paste the web address into the textbox labeled "URL" by pressing Ctrl+V (copied to clipboard in Step #12).

  • Click the "Adjust" button. (Click for more information about attaching links to Cue requests.)

  • Now that you've linked the material you created to the Cue requesting it, it's time to change the status. Click the status potion vial.

  • When the status selection screen comes up, click on the radio button next to the "Review" potion vial.

  • Click the "Adjust" button. (Click for more information about the Review status.)

    Now it's up to the Requestor to review your work, approve the material, and award you the points. Don't be afraid to remind the Requestor that you have submitted your work for review. Be sure to communicate with the Requestor so you are both aware of any hang-ups.
