Medicine, don't worry too much about what not to do! We have some great minds on this project.

CHARACTER CREATION:
One thing I consistently don't like about RPGs is how many options you have at character creation. Also, the random-die generation for stats is horrible in Book of Eschalon. We should definitely have fully-assignable points and no randomness. Maybe we should even start the character off at level 0, or level 1, and the character does not choose any skill points. Using the skillpoint system we already discussed, the player potentially never needs to assign skillpoints.

Maybe a D&D style "stat assignable" points would be useful, where you only assign stat points at certain levels. We could even have stat-assignable points every level, and by the time the player reaches level 2, the player at least has a basic idea of what he should assign his first stat to. The game should make it obvious what stats are working to his advantage, at least via in-game popups (such as hovering your mouse over a weapon and it reads "strength bonus: +1 to damage". Also, adding a point to strength should either always increase damage for every point, or the game should make it obvious that "every 4 points of strenght increase damage by 1" (maybe via hovering over "strength" stat)

Also, we are not having the player choose a class at character creation, right? Because we are basing everything off the "jobclass" which is based on skillpoints.

SKILLS:
For learning new skills, I appreciate it when RPGs have you talk to "trainer" NPCs and sometimes those trainers are scattered through the world and not available everywhere, especially for rarer skills. At least, the magic skills should be spread throughout the world, not all in one place. For example, fire magic skill should be mostly located in hotter climates. Illusion could be akin to certain region as well. This would encourage travel and exploration. Certain skills could be rare enough that only a village in some random area has one trainer, and there could be quests to get info on where the trainer is located.

NIGHT TIME:
Sneaking should be easier. Monsters should not automatically know where you are and attack you if you aren't making noise, there are no light sources, and they creatures don't have nightvision. (Anything but sneaking makes noise.

DISEASE/CURSE:
We make these things less annoying by making it rare, and weaker less annoying diseases can be uncommon, or easy to avoid if you know "oh, that creature is carrying this disease, better keep my distance". Diseases can do all sorts of things, so we have plenty of room to adjust for annoyance. It would be cool if there were "disease outbreaks" and news spread around and you would know to avoid certain villages or cities.

@Argitoth: Those are all some really solid suggestions. Thanks!

lso, we are not having the player choose a class at character creation, right? Because we are basing everything off the "jobclass" which is based on skillpoints.
This seems to be less a suggestion or idea than it is a question about our current mechanics. If that is the case, we are unable to answer questions about that particular feature at this time since we have not yet settled on how it will be implemented, but you are welcome to suggest your preference. Members of the development team may discuss how this potential mechanic should be implemented, but such a discussion should occur in the Development > .
