Now we just need to figure out how to deserve such reviews.

found another review to help inspire us: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... 6qGgM&t=42
0:42 to 1:45

here's a minigame "hacking" start at 1:00 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4EXRGKKqQA

pause it to read the text, you can kinda figure out what's going on, see the upper right for target vs player's stats and watch it change. when target is -10, the target gets taken control of.

I don't understand it. How is the enemy-soldier-hacking mini-game played? It looks very interesting, but I think I am missing the core mechanics of it.

It looks like you click a bunch and then it says "they moved left"

but seriously, cool concept, probably could use some playability improvements. I was always a fan of the bionic commando hacking mini game.

Yeah, even though it was relatively simple it never bothered me that it had absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the gameplay or even real hacking. A realistic hacking mini-game would be freaking boring, actually. This is along the same lines as Bioshock's hacking:
You could get vending machines to give you a limited amount of free stuff if you were successful at the Pipe-dreams "hacking".

To address the title of this thread, the E.Y.E. review shows a good example of how we can get creative with mini-games, but I don't think this is the kind of game review we want. One of the first things the reviewer says is "...It's user-unfriendly, unpolished, and unbalanced..." and each time he praises the game after that is only after describing how frustrating and nigh-unplayable it is. Let's be sure to not take our inspiration from those parts :P

Soo, this time I am posting the kind of review we DON'T want! It's a good watch, enjoy!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Axg9f1edzv4

I was going to write a bunch of bullet points... but I think the video itself does too much justice. :D

Ouch!

I think the scariest part of that review is that the Project Utumno game is not at all immune to those mistakes. I don't think we are necessarily prone to those same mistakes, nor do I think it likely we would incorporate such blatantly not-fun features, but they are all mistakes that we are capable of making. We'll have to be vigilant to avoid committing such sins!

Edit: TL;DR for the video: $2 seems to be the summary of what the reviewer most disliked about the game. "The slow pace, extremely random nature, and ridiculous difficulty is just totally unneccessary"
