the term "swift retribution" is intentionally left vague because the form of retribution is very dependent on the way in which the rule was violated. If someone scams a social security number or credit card number out of another member on our forum, we most definitely can have the person tracked down by IP and arrested for computer crimes.
However, if the offender impersonated a moderator so they could steal graphics, story concepts, or other game material, then we could not really have them arrested, but we
could file suit against them because they agreed to a legal disclaimer before they were allowed to post anything on this forum. Especially Jtan, since he has his concepts copyrighted.
If the offender was just lying about their rank or awards or cheating on the cue sheet system or voting polls we could not pursue legal action, per se, but we do have the authority to ban that user, block their IP address, and blacklist them so other sites and forums would be wary about letting that person into those other forums.
If the scamming or dishonesty is extended into the multiplayer game environment, we have the authority to imprison/disable/delete the player's account.
Of course, there are also several other forms of retribution that are well within our
ability to administer... they are just not
legal to administer.
